“Land of the Giants” as many call it, Saguaro Lake is the ultimate trophy bass fishing lake. Conveniently located close to the Phoenix and Scottsdale area, Saguaro Lake is a favorite amongst local anglers. Not your typical desert lake, a year round stable water level allows submerged vegetation to flourish and provide shelter for the giant bass that lurk in the lake.
Along with great fishing, Saguaro Lake is incredibly scenic. Towering cliffs and rock formations will grab your attention as you cast your lines. Wild horses, desert bighorn sheep, and bald eagles are also commonly spotted from the boat during trips to Saguaro Lake.
Located above Saguaro Lake on the Salt River Chain, Canyon Lake presents another great opportunity for trophy bass. Being a bit further into the Superstition Mountain Range, Canyon Lake sees less traffic from boaters. The main body of Canyon Lake contains several “fishy” flats and coves while the beautiful river portion of the lake sports some of the most incredible views you can imagine.
Located at the top of the Salt River Chain, Roosevelt Lake is the crown jewel of the central Arizona Lakes. The largest lake in the region, Roosevelt lake is absolutely full of both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Although a bit further drive from the Phoenix area, Roosevelt’s quality of fishing makes it worth the drive.
Thanks to ample shallow cover and brush, Roosevelt Lake is a power fisherman’s dream. Even with the brush filled shorelines, the deep bite will sometimes prevail during certain times of year. With so much diversity in structure and cover, Roosevelt is one of my favorite lakes for one on one coaching trips.
Located northeast of Scottsdale, Bartlett Lake is Arizona’s bass quantity capital. If you’re after lots of bass on your guide trip, Bartlett Lake is often the best bet. With constantly fluctuating water levels you will not much much submerged vegetation or rock in Bartlett Lake. Rock is the predominant cover which makes fishing easier for newer anglers and children.
The closest lake to Phoenix and Scottsdale, Lake Pleasant’s clear waters and ample fish populations are impressive. Along with solid largemouth bass fishing, Lake Pleasant also supports an incredible amount of Striped Bass. The Striped Bass are always a fun option for some drag screaming action.
As the clearest lake in Central Arizona, Lake Pleasant offers a unique opportunity to learn finesse fishing. I would also consider Lake Pleasant the best Topwater lake in the state during certain seasons.
